Mary Wollstonecraft and Mary Shelley

I was just about to automatically type, "Hey guys," but realized the irony.

Anyway...

I went ahead and looked more into the life of Mary Wollstonecraft, well-known feminist and author of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. Wollstonecraft was born in London in 1759, wrote Rights of Woman in 1792, and died in 1797. She -- get this! -- did not write Frankenstein.

Mary Wollstonecraft married William Godwin in 1797 and gave birth to a daughter, also named Mary. This daughter, Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, then married Percy Bysshe Shelley in 1816 and wrote Frankenstein in 1818.

Well. Clears that up!

  2. Thank you so much for doing this research. I was mistaken! I'll try not to let that happen again! Joking. Alas, I am not perfect and mistakes do happen. But I am so glad that we have so many smart people working together in our class.
Thanks for clearing it up Sean.
