Sojourner Truth

"Ain't I a Woman" was written by Sojourner Truth in the time where slavery existed.  She was born as a slave and she worked very tediously in the fields.  Even though she was an extremely hard worker, nothing paid off because she was a slave.  On top of that, she was a black slave woman.  During that time, it was very difficult for a woman to gain the same rights as a man and even more difficult if they were black.  Men thought that women were inferior to men and that they were objects for men.  This was a stereotype that was created for all women, but she didn't believe that.  She was brave enough to step up for her rights and let everyone know that women are still considered human and that they should be treated equally.
She made a very good, clear point when Christ was brought up.  A man said that Christ wasn't a woman, so woman can't have the same rights as a man.  Then Sojourner Truth said that Christ came from a virgin woman, without the help of a man.  She made a very good point that without woman, there would be no Christ.  According to my knowledge about the Bible, God made Eve in His image to help her man, Adam, and to control and take care of him.  Eve wasn't an object nor a slave and had the same rights as a man.  Many men were religious and they shouldn't fought for women's rights as well since men and women were both created equal in God's image.
Today is Martin Luther King Jr's birthday and it reminds me of his "I Have a Dream" speech.  People like Dr. King and Sojourner Truth give people hope and give people a reason to fight for their rights.
