Revolution Without Violence?

During discussion last week the question was posed if a revolution can take place without violence. For this to occur, it would mean that those initiating and opposing the revolution would need to deal with each other in such a way that they would refrain from initiating any violence.

This goal would seem to me to be close to impossible unless the demands by those initiating the revolution are close to trivial. And even then, if the demands inconvenience those in power, or conflict with their racists ideologies, the revolutionaries will be met with violence should they insist on their demands. During the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the catalyst was Rosa Parks merely asking to sit on a bus in a seat of her choosing. I can only imagine what type of resistance people of color would be met with should they begin to demand, with vigor, things that would really begin to level the playing field rather than widening the gap between the number of people of color in prison and their white counterparts, or the gap between the haves and have-nots.

I believe that any revolution looking to change something substantial will be met with quick and brutal opposition even if they choose to be non-violent in their tactics.
