So I've been thinking long and hard about what platform or declaration I would select for my life as a rubric and motive to follow, and a lot of things come to mind. Kant's essay, "What is Enlightenment?" cites true enlightenment as having the courage to use one's own reason and convictions to think for yourself, then act.
I definitely identify a lot with this idea, but I don't know whether I agree with his idea that we must be one way in our public life, and another in our private life. Something I see running through all the manifestos we studied in class is the unflinching pursuit of truth, the desire to pull back the veil of ignorance and truly SEE, so that we can decide how to act, what to change, how to live. I haven't reached this yet, but I would definitely state with manifesto-like gusto that I am dedicated to the unflinching pursuit of truth in the hopes of gaining true enlightenment and achieving intellectual independence.
