I really love Scrubs. I know that every episode is basically the same and that they all follow a very obvious formula, but it's like candy...or a bag of popcorn at 2 in the morning: I can't stop. And when we started talking about the Oedipal complex, a very distinct Scrubs flashback clip popped into my head. This one:

This is a prime example of what we were talking about in lecture as well as what Freud suggests in his writings. Moreover, the clip is from an episode called "My Self-Examination", a Freudian therapy reference, and the clip starts with JD asking a previous lover why he's so "messed-up." This whole idea of going to someone else to learn more about himself because of repressed emotions was invented by Freud. The clip then continues to exemplify a prominent Freudian concept: the Oedipal Complex. This flashback is very pertinent to JD's character and explains his eight-season-long failed search for love and finding the perfect woman.
