I was watching this week's Glee episode "Heart" today and some thoughts came into my mind. Santana, a cheerleader in a homosexual relationship with Brittney, was called into the principal's office for PDA. The PDA was simply a lip to lip peck with her cheerleader partner. Santana was appalled that she and Britney were called in for a peck, juxtaposed towards Rachel and Finn's "innocently" full out makeout in the hallway. Thus, Santana was determined to make a statement. She asked a Christian acapella group if they could send a song-a-gram to anyone she wanted as long as she paid $10. Of course, the lead singer agreed, stating that anyone can receive them. Then, Santana stated that she wanted her GIRLFRIEND to receive the song-a-gram and the episode closed to a commercial break.
I really appreciated Glee's presentation of homosexual awareness. I liked how Glee was showing that most of America, most stereotypically religious groups, are strongly opposed towards same-sex relationships. However, one thing that I did not agree with was the Christian acapella group's agreement to sing to Brittney at the end, of course with a smile on their faces, stating that "they would do anything because it's all for love". The world simply does not work in this way. Solutions don't happen just because of "love". This ending upset me; however, I appreciate Glee's attempt to bring up the public's opposition and awareness towards homosexual orientations.
Here's a summary of the episode (since I don't think the episode has come out on Hulu!): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_(Glee)
And here it is on Channel 131!: http://ch131.com/glee313.htm
I saw this episode too. I was glad to see this double standard discussed on the show.
