Hate is a White Man's Privilege
Racism is clearly still a large issue in our society and culture today. And despite that many think we have progressed and moved away from issues of the past, there are still many problems. It is clear that most of the ideas that are heard and appreciated come from a white man. My 6 word essay stems from the ideas that we heard from Tim Wise during discussion. Because white men are not suspected, they are not detected and therefore not punished. And although all individuals have the ability to hate and discriminate, it appears that in this day and age only white men have the power to hate and thus have the ability to discriminate and oppress because of this power.

I would interpret your six words as "turning hatred to action is a white man's privilege" while if it comes to a black man it would become his guilt. As you says that "all individuals have the ability to hate," I think all of us have hated someone at some point in our life. What matters is not whether we deeply hate in our heart, but whether we integrate our hatred into action. You are right that black people are more often suspected thus punished than the white when it comes to action.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you got something out of Time Wise's talk. The entire hour is online if you google or look on youtube you can find it.
