Coming up with a six word essay is a lot more difficult than it sounds...
Nevertheless, I have always found the topic of race to be a tricky topic. It seems that, especially in America, we enjoy tiptoeing around the issue. Yet, we never fully cover the topic. We leave the issue to be solved for later generations, hoping our children will somehow live happily ever after. But, it is the seed implanted from our parents in which the current generation becomes exposed to past racist traditions. This allows for old habits to continue, making the hopeful idea for old habits to cease even more difficult.
However, I believe our generation is making the most progress. With movements like the Race Card Project, we are attempting to spread more awareness about the issue. As the remix generation, we are collecting data from all previous generations in an effort to analyze our past mistakes in order to create a solution. Sure, racism will still exist. Our generation is just trying to amend the strictness to this extent.
You bring up a really interesting point about our generation being the remix generation. I agree I do think that we are trying to do better by amending the strictness however i think we would could be more successful by trying to get to the root of the issue by learning about racism and trying to understand why these ideas have become ingrained in our thoughts. If we can teach kids now about where the ideas of racism come from perhaps we would have a better chance at eliminating the negative ideologies associated with certain races.
ReplyDeleteThe media should take the responsibility to solve the problem. If the white-oriented media can report without bias in many issue and focus more on the real life of minority instead of violence and crime, things would be much better.
