I am sure that a lot of people have seen this video, because it is a few years old, but I think it is very pertinent to what we are talking about in class. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtGt_XzBEbI
The woman in the video is changed by makeup and photoshop to look quite different. It's funny to think how you could be looking at hundreds of images a day in advertising and not really know what that person truly looks like. What does this do for our idea of beauty? How can we be striving for something that is not actually real?
I found this video after watching the video link you posted: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_I17cK1ltY
ReplyDeleteI tried to find a male version of Dove's campaign for real beauty but I couldn't find one, which is interesting because I think guys deal with the same pressure of the perfect body through advertising and the media, but the issue is not addressed as much as women's. It's really unfortunate that there's such an expectation that's put out there by advertising that creates this social pressure on both men and women, making them strive for perfection when the perfection they see in the media and advertising isn't even real.
