Beauty Standards

Hi, guys!

I came across this pretty interesting video on YouTube. Here it is:

The two individuals in the video are Canadian teachers who moved to Korea to teach English. They made really interesting and funny videos about learning the Korean culture, and they would make comparisons of the things that they find really different and bizarre. In the video I'm sharing, they talked about the definition of beauty in Korea and how it is distinct from that in North America. In Korea, there is a specific set of features that define beauty: Pale skin, long legs, small face, double eyelids, tall to name a few. They then talked about how these ideal features apply to both men and women. In North America, people might find beauty in men and women with completely different features (think Halle Berry and... Nicole Kidman?) but in Korea, majority of the people stick to a set of ideas that define male and female beauty.
